Search Engine Optimization for Wordpress

March 23rd, 2008

In this post, we are going to discuss Search Engine Optimization a.k.a SEO for the famous blogging platform, Wordpress. Wordpress can be easily optimized for search engines because of the fact that so many plugins are available for customizing it. Plus the coding of Wordpress is easy to understand and thus you can easily edit it.

PART I - FINDING A SEARCH ENGINE FRIENDLY THEME

Optimizing wordpress should, in my view, start with finding a Search Engine Friendly theme. What am I talking about? Does a theme determine my Search Rankings ( SERP’s)? Not completely, but yes, it does to an extent. Here’s how :

Getting Traffic from DIGG

February 29th, 2008

DIGG, if you dont know , is a social bookmarking site.It can be a very potent one in terms of bringing traffic to your site.If you site gets on the first page of digg for about 15 minutes, you will get almost 10000 Pageviews. Though the traffic that comes is unstable, many people like it to get some people around their sites . But everything has a method which “should” be followed in order to get the best results . There is no kind of sure-shot method which will give you a major traffic boost in 2-3 days. But if you have patience and work hard, there is nothing that cant be acheived. Coming back to DIGG, It could be a good weapon to bring quite some traffic to your website. I am trying to help in that by making a complete guide for getting traffic to your website from DIGG.

1) First , make an account at DIGG .

2) Then login to your account and submit a webpage to DIGG.

3) Things such as title and description are required which should be attractive enough to get some visitors.I am explaining them below

HEADING : What do people see first?Heading or title. If it is attractive ,then people would go on to read the whole description and all other things. So you should make Heading as attractive and specific as possible.

DESCRIPTION :If you have a good heading, people will move their eyes to the description which should contain the important howabouts of your webpage.Be specific and targeted.

CONTENT :When people come to your website, they would bookmark it and come again and again if you have a good content and provide them some useful information.

4) Add the DIGG this button to your website as a must.It would increase the no. of diggs you get.

5) Ask your friends to digg for you and get as many diggs as possible.

6) Go to other forums and exchange DIGGs .

Wait for some time and see the result.I am sure I would have helped you. :)

Getting Indexed by GOOGLE

February 22nd, 2008

There are many people who think that you need to wait for some weeks or even months to get indexed in Google. But not me,I dont think that getting indexed in Google is that hard and takes that much time.If you believe me, this site which was launched on 5th Feb got crawled by Google in 3 days . So I think and belive that it is quite possible .Follow some steps I am writing below :)

  • Participate in various forums of your niche and  post your website’s URL in your signature or if they have an advertising section, put it there.
  • Go to other blogs and promote your website( care for the no-follow tag)
  • Build links with other websites of your niche who are already indexed in Google
  • Submit your websites to social bookmarking sites such as Digg, stumbleupon and others and ask other people to stumble it or digg it.

If these steps are properly followed,I dont think it would take much more than 2-3 days to get indexed by Google because I myself have experienced that :) .The only problem is that luck gets here ;p but that doesnt mean anything. You can always try and thats what I believe in!

Web Usability

February 20th, 2008

It has been some days when I last published an article.Anyways,Here I am again and today I am writing on Web Usability. Here are some very useful tips for you to follow when you build a website so that the visitors have a rich ecperience :

a) Write w3 compliant code wherever possible.  Click here to check if your website is w3 compiant.

b) By using interactive elements such as javascript , you can allow your visitors to control their experience and view your page in the way they want.

c) Try to lessen up the use of images because they make your website load slow.

d) Dont use text as images.

e) Have a clear,consistent and good navigation.

f) Try to keep file sizes small . Optimize your webpages for that but dont compromise with the graphics.

g) Some small things like having a search option in your site(You can take that from google) can help your visitors have a good experience.

h) Make sure the links are visible and the visitors dont have to search for important links.

g) At last provide some useful content to the visitors so that they come again and again .After all this is also a  good experience :)
